Twenty private clinics and American agencies that facilitate commercially surrogacy (GPA) of babies brought their bags this weekend to Brussels. They are aimed at the LGBT community (gay, lesbian, bisexual) in Europe that wants a child.
Some 140 gay couples would have registered to participate in this award. A baby could cost up to $ 100,000 (90,000 euros). This money does not return entirely to the surrogate mother but to the emergency services who promise any support for that amount.
“This is the first time we’ve been in Belgium” said Ron Poole-Dayan, coordinator of the organization “Men Having Babies”. Dutch organizations are taking part in the initiative, but none from Belgium.
Anne-Charlotte d’Ursel (MR) calls Rudy Vervoort
MP Anne-Charlotte d’Ursel (MR) protested against the fact that the BIP (Brussels seat of government) has been hired by an organization that promotes surrogacy (surrogacy) Trade. According to her, “the place chosen by the organizers for the show, has a symbolic value, since it is the BIP, yhr House of the Brussels Region and the Brussels government headquarters. This suggests that the region endorses the campaign advertising orchestrated by the US companies ” .
It also recalls that this organization promotes practices contradicting several treaties / conventions / protocols signed by Belgium, such as:
– Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and pornography of children in 2006. In particular article 2 a) of this Protocol: “We Sale of children means any act or transaction whereby a child is transferred by any person or group of persons to another person or another group against remuneration or other benefits. ”
– The European Convention on the Adoption of Children (Revised) 2008 Article 17: “No one shall derive any improper financial or other gain from an activity related to the adoption of a child.”
Anne-Charlotte d’Ursel will challenge Minister President Rudy Vervoort in the Brussels Parliament to know how it is possible that regional government buildings have been leased to an organization that promotes commercial GPA, and ask him what he will do for this type of problem does not happen again in the future.
The CDH is opposed to any form of commodification of the body
The party of Benoît Lutgen ” strongly condemns the holding of a surrogates fair” via a statement. The party recalls that it is opposed to any form of commercialization of the human body. “It is unacceptable to see that some people in our country are importing a model that has the effect of developing a business around surrogacy, while considering surrogates like machines to make children ” .
